Function of Accumulators

Accumulators store the system fluid under pressure and deliver it back to the system under pressure whenever needed.

Holding Periods and Pre-Charge Requirement

This storage holding period could range from a few seconds to several days, which means that the accumulators must be pre-charged with required correct gas pressure beforehand to ensure the system is held under control.

Risks of Incorrect Pre-Charge

If the accumulator does not have the correct pre-charge pressure, it will not be able to provide the required backup fluid flow which could undermine operating system performance or make it out of control, leading to a catastrophic failure.

Hence, it’s a critical maintenance issue that all accumulators, be it of any type, must always be kept and maintained with the correct pre-charge pressure at all times.

Universal Accumulator Charging Kit

To facilitate pre-charging and monitoring of gas pressure in an accumulator, Accumulator Charging Kits are used.

We offer a Universal Charging Kit for bladder, piston, and diaphragm accumulators. It is designed to charge with nitrogen, as well as to test and adjust the pre-charge pressure. Whether during commissioning or routine service, our kits ensure safe and efficient handling.

To suit different gas-side adapters on various accumulators, compatible adaptors can be provided.

Kit Components

  • Charging block with carbon steel body, spindle, check valve, and release valve
  • Pressure gauge with ranges up to 400 bar
  • Durable charging hose
  • Protective case with inlay or loose parts
  • Adaptor for bladder accumulators
  • Adaptor for commercial nitrogen gas bottles
  • Available gauge ranges: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 400 bar
  • Available hose lengths: 2.5 m (standard), 4 m, 6 m, 10 m, 15 m & 30 m
  • Adaptors for different accumulator makes and country-specific nitrogen bottles

How the Charging Kit Works

The charging block of the kit is screwed onto the gas valve of the accumulator and connected via hose to a commercial nitrogen bottle. A pressure reducing valve with a gas relief feature should be used if the accumulator’s operating pressure is lower than the nitrogen vessel.

If only checking or reducing pre-charge pressure is required, the charging block alone can be used.
